On his initial day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani committed to “transform” America's largest city, promising “a fresh chapter” and an ambitious commencement to his term.

Mamdani has sought to ease these concerns by persuading Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch to remain, avoiding the optics of losing a Jewish police chief.
